Guglielmo Faija was extensively employed by Queen Victoria from 1845 onwards to produce copies in miniature after oil portraits and after other miniatures, notably by Sir William Ross. In this case, he has based his copy on a miniature of the Duchess of Atholl by Ross which belonged to the sitter and which remains in the collection at Blair Castle.
Anne, only daughter of Henry Home-Drummond, married, in 1839, George Murray, Baron Glenlyon, later 6th Duke of Atholl. She served as Mistress of the Robes (1852-3), Lady of the Bedchamber (1854-97) and Acting Mistress of the Robes (1892). Queen Victoria described her as a 'very aimable [sic] person' on her acceptance of the office of Mistress of the Robes (RA VIC/ADDA/24/306) and she remained 'an esteemed personal friend of the Queen, for 55 years' (Court Circular, 18 May 18970.Provenance
