A late-nineteenth-century copy taken from Sir Joshua Reynolds's double portrait of the Duchess with her daughter, Lady Georgiana Cavendish, dating from 1784 (Chatsworth, no. 528).
Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, eldest daughter of John 1st Earl Spencer, and Margaret, daughter of the Honourable Stephen Poyntz; married, in 1774, William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire. She was renowned as the leading society figure and Whig hostess of her time.Provenance
