Miss Dixon's expenses reveal that the miniature was painted at Claremont, the house in Esher, Surrey, which had been granted to the exiled duc and duchesse de Nemours following the 1848 Revolution and where Princess Blanche had been born in October 1857.
Princesse Blanche d'Orléans was the fourth child of Louis, duc de Nemours, and Victoire, daughter of Duke Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. She died in Paris in 1932.
