This miniature by Anthony Stewart (1773-1846) shows Queen Victoria as an infant aged one year old, wearing a white dress trimmed with lace, a white bonnet and coral necklace. It is one of the earliest of a series of miniatures by Stewart of the princess capturing her at various stages of childhood up to the age of thirteen. Another version of this miniature is also in the Royal Collection (420258).
Anthony Stewart trained with the Scottish landscapist Alexander Nasmyth in Edinburgh before turning to miniature painting, firstly in Edinburgh and later in London. He specialised in painting children.Provenance
