Möller's miniature is based on a drawing of Queen Caroline Matilda in ink on paper by Peder Als (1725/6 – 76) in the Fredericksborg Museum (no. 2668).
Caroline Matilda, Queen of Denmark (1751 – 75), youngest child of Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales, and Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, and sister of King George III, married, in 1766, Christian VII, King of Denmark. The marriage failed and she was arrested and imprisoned for adultery, dying in exile in Celle, Hanover, in 1775.
