-
This miniature is a variation of another miniature portrait of Princess Amelia by Anne Mee, also in the Royal Collection (RCIN 43893) painted around 1800. The artist may be Charlotte Jones (1768-1847), who was a pupil of Richard Cosway who had painted Princess Amelia when she was a child (RCIN 420003). She worked in London and Manchester and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1801 and 1823. She was appointed miniature painter to Princess Charlotte of Wales, Amelia’s niece, in 1808 and painted a series of 12 portraits recording Charlotte’s appearance at different ages, all still in the Royal Collection.
