Caroline, Princess of Wales was an accomplished harpist and Faija has copied her head for this miniature from Sir Thomas Lawrence's double portrait of the Princess tuning a harp with her daughter Princess Charlotte looking on. The original portrait was painted in 1801 for Anne, Marchioness of Townshend, Mistress of the Robes to the Princess of Wales and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1802. It was later acquired by Queen Victoria in 1843. Two years later Faija completed his miniature copy.
Caroline Amelia of Brunswick married George, Prince of Wales, later George IV in 1795. Theirs was an unhappy marriage and Caroline moved her residence to Blackheath. They had one daughter, Charlotte, who was born in 1796.
