Portrait of a man, called Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1639-1660) 1800-52
Watercolour on card | 5.5 x 4.3 cm (support, canvas/panel/stretcher external) | RCIN 420105
-
Although this miniature is inscribed on the reverse: 'Duke of Gloucester', it does not seem close in appearance to Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1639-60), third son of Charles I and Henrietta Maria, although the sitter wears the collar and robes of the Order of the Garter. It is a nineteenth-century copy painted on card rather than ivory, probably deriving from a seventeenth-century source.
