Hall lantern nineteenth century
-
Giltmetal and frosted glass hexagonal hall lantern with a double scroll suspension
Provenance
Probably originally an argand lamp, an oil lamp patented in 1780 by Aimé Argand. The lamp was much improved in brightness as the combustion of the wick and oil required much less frequent trimming of the wick. Now converted to electricity.
