This is a replica of a painting by Sir Charles Eastlake which was completed in 1842 and exhibited at the Royal Academy. The sitters were Harriet Ludlow Clarke and her sister, who are seen on a balcony covered by honeysuckle with hollycock's growing behind, holding an open sketchbook. It was clearly popular as the artist was commissioned to make at least three other copies. Eastlake was paid 100 guineas (£105) for the painting.
Signed and dated: [CL] Eastlake / 1844. Inscribed on the back with the title and the artist's name.Provenance
