The title of this portrait, Missis Kwin, refers to the title for Queen Elizabeth II in Tok Pisin, the creole language of Papua New Guinea.

The Queen is shown wearing a Gerua, an important ceremonial headdress traditionally worn by Chieftains in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. A Gerua is typically made of wood that is carved and then painted in bright colours to resemble the feathers of birds of paradise, and other species.

This portrait was presented by the artist, Mathias Kauage, in 1996. Kauage is one of Papua New Guinea's best known contemporary artists.
