-
Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, is shown with head and shoulders to the front in evening dress with the ribbon and star of the Garter. The eighth child and fourth son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Leopold was later created Duke of Albany, Earl of Clarence, and Baron Arklow. Leopold had haemophilia, which led to his early death at age 30.
This painting is a copy by Koberwein-Terrell of an original portrait by Von Angeli in the Royal Collection (RCIN 405013), perhaps the copy for which the Lord Chamberlain's Department paid £19 17s 6d in September 1884.Provenance
Probably painted for Queen Victoria
