Francisca Carolina, daughter of the Bazilian Emperor Pedro I, married Prince François of Orleans, son of King Louis Philippe, in 1843. The couple lived in Paris until 1848, when they joined the deposed King in exile in England, returning to Paris in 1870. This is a copy of Winterhalter's portrait of 1846 (Versailles Museum). The sitter is shown full-length, holding a closed fan in her right hand, wearing an off-the-shoulder mauve coloured gown, pink flowers at neckline and in hair; park landscape with classical building.
