Half-length, facing half right, wearing the dark blue uniform of a General of the Württemberg army, his left hand held at the red sash on his chest; wearing the Star of the Garter, two medals and an Order at his waist, an iron cross at neck.
The Duke is wearing the uniform of a General in the Württemberg army. His three stars include the Garter (on the wrong side). He wears the ribbon of the Order of the Crown of Württemberg. His mother, Princess Antoinette of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld was the aunt of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. In 1860 he married Nathalie Eschborn, a well-known singer, which created difficulties with his family. At the time of his death Princess Feodora wrote: 'I liked him so much at one time. But that stupid marriage estranged him from most of us ... that is sad to think'.
