The Duke is wearing the uniform of a General in the Württemberg army. His three stars include the Garter (on the wrong side). He wears the ribbon of the Order of the Crown of Württemberg. His mother, Princess Antoinette of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld was the aunt of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. In 1860 he married Nathalie Eschborn, a well-known singer, which created difficulties with his family. At the time of his death Princess Feodora wrote: 'I liked him so much at one time.
