Two Skye terriers are depicted in a room at the Kennels at Windsor which was furnished so that Queen Victoria could use it. The gloves and the fan on the table probably are the Queen's. The dogs are stated to have been the granddaughter and the son of 'old Corran'. Cairnach, the older dog, died in 1874. Dot was born in 1872.
A label on the reverse of the painting records that this is a painted photograph of Ottto Weber's picture (RCIN 403591). First recorded at Windsor, the picture bears the Personal Property stamp of Queen Victoria, so was presumably acquired by her. Charles Burton Barber was employed by Queen Victoria from 1871 to 1894 and numerous small paintings, often of royal dogs, survive in the Royal Collection. The frame is by W. Brooks & Son.Provenance
