Adolphus Frederick, Duke of Cambridge (1774–1850), son of George III, was Queen Victoria's uncle. A label on the back of the painting in Queen Mary's handwriting states that the portrait had been left, presumably by his son George, Duke of Cambridge, 'to us all'. Here the Duke is wearing the ribbon and star of the Garter.
Provenance
Recorded in the collection of Queen Mary.
