The young sitter wears a red bodice and skirt, with a fine linen collar and handkerchief around her neck, both trimmed with lace. Her cuffs are finely pleated and also decorated with lace. Her jewellery includes several bracelets on each wrist, drop pearl earrings and a jewelled billiment in her hair. She holds a fashionable folding fan in her right hand, a recent innovation to Europe. The portrait was previously identified as Princess Elizabeth of Bohemia, and attributed to both Dutch and Flemish schools.

First recorded at Osborne House in 1873 (stamped on the reverse), though it is not mentined in the catalogue of 1876
