This painting depicts the landscape of Upper Teesdale, in rich autumn colours. A dark pool appears in the foreground, bordered by rocks and trees, with a hilly landscape beyond.
Milner seemed to specialise in still life painting, often setting objects against a dark background. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1924-31. A note on the reverse of the painting records that 'This picture, being painted with petroleum, does not require varnishing' and gives the artist's address as 247 King's Road, Chelsea.Provenance
