Queen Victoria visited the Ward's house, Upton Park, near Slough, in October 1857, and liked Henrietta Ward's sketches of her own children so much that she requested 'a similar small sketch of our little baby'. Princess Beatrice (1857-1944) was the fifth daughter and youngest child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Henrietta Ward was one of the most prominent female artists of the time and taught several of Queen Victoria's children.
