This picture was formerly described as a portrait of Inigo Jones, but has more recently been identified as Abraham van der Doort, a medallist of Dutch origin who served as Surveyor of the King's Pictures to Charles I and compiled an important catalogue of part of the King's collections. There is another version attributed to Dobson in the Hermitage and a copy in the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Presented to Queen Mary in 1920 by James Milner esq, Director of the National Portrait Gallery, and added by Queen Mary to the Royal Collection
