Half-length portrait of a woman, facing half to the left, apparently wearing mourning dress. She wears a white bodice and skirt, decorated with multiple layers of lace and black ribbons. Her head is covered by a two-layered veil of transparent linen trimmed with lace.
Provenance
Possibly one of a group of group of historical portraits acquired in 1731 with the lease of Kew House from Lady Elizabeth Capel by Frederick, Prince of Wales; certainly recorded in the Queen's Drawing Room at Kensington Palace in 1818 (no 152) as Cornelius Johnson
