Although in 1833 this sitter was identified as 'Lord Falkland', it is now not believed to represent either the 1st Viscount Falkland, Sir Henry Carey (c.1575-1633) or his son Lucius Carey (c.1610-1643).
It is a copy of a portrait by Johnson of c. 1635-40. The sitter wears a black paned doublet over a white linen shirt and a wide lace falling band edged with lace.Provenance
