William IV (1765-1837) 1865
-
This painting was created in 1865 for a set of portraits of sovereigns at St James's Palace. It is a version of Shee's full-length of William IV in Garter Robes (OM 1084, 404385), though Glasgow actually made his copy after the version at the Royal Academy. The King is shown wearing the robes of the Order of the Garter, his right hand resting on hid sword; St Edward's crown and the sceptre on the table; a view of Windsor Castle to the right.
