Princess Margaret of Connaught is shown with head and shoulders to the front, wearing a white afternoon dress with a diamond and pearl brooch at her breast. The daughter of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, third son of Queen Victoria, and his wife, Princess Luise Margarete of Prussia, Margaret went on to become Crown Princess of Sweden following her marriage to Gustav Adolf of Sweden in 1905. She was nicknamed Daisy and in Sweden was known as Margareta. This portrait was painted for Queen Victoria and captured Daisy at seventeen years old. The Queen was pleased, describing it as 'very pretty and like'. Payments to Von Angeli in August 1899 included £262 10s for the portrait.
