Octagonal box of nephrite with hinged lid, mounted by chased yellow gold with opalescent enamel beads surrounding a rose-sepia enamel painting on gold of view of Holy Trinity church, Stratford-upon-Avon; rose diamond and ruby thumbpiece.
Queen Mary purchased this box in 1934, according to the lists of bibelots that she compiled between 1920 and 1937. It had originally been purchased by Mrs Nanny Leeds, widow of William Bateman Leeds, the ‘tinplate king’ of Indiana and one of the most extravagant American customers of the London branch. The lid of the nephrite box is decorated with an enamelled view of the church of Holy Trinity at Stratford-upon-Avon. The pushpiece is a ruby flanked by diamond-set leaves.
Mark of Henrik Wigström; gold mark of 72 zolotniks (1896-1908); Fabergé in Cyrillic characters and Carl Fabergé's initials in Roman letters: English import marks for 1911
