-
At roughly 2.00 pm during the Battle of Walerloo the Ist Household and 2nd Union Brigade of Cavalry charged the French infantry with devastating effect. During the fighting Sergeant Charles Ewart of the 2nd Royal Scots Greys captured the standard of the French 45th Regiment, the eagle which remains to this day the Regimental emblem of the Scots Greys. This is the moment which Dighton celebrates in this picture, which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1817.
