Oil on canvas | 89.2 x 120.5 cm (support, canvas/panel/stretcher external) | RCIN 404775

Style of David Teniers the Younger (Antwerp 1610-Brussels 1690)
Shepherds with their Flocks by Night c.1680-1720
-
This is one of a set of four landscapes (see CWLF 117, 404778, CWLF 118, 404776, CWLF 119, 404777); this one is a night scene, which might suggest that they represent four times of day, though if so the other times are difficult to distinguish. They would appear to be by a follower of Teniers.
Provenance
Acquired in Spain by Sir Daniel Arthur; in the collection of George Bagnall from whom purchased by Frederick Prince of Wales in 1747; recorded hanging at Leicester House in 1749
