Equestian Portrait of Maximilian II Emmanuel, Elector of Bavaria (1662-1726) c.1700

This is an unknown artist doing a pastiche of Van Dyck’s ‘Charles I with St Antoine’ (OM 143, 405322) some seventy years after the original. The sitter was governor of the Spanish Netherlands from 1691-1714, which is presumably when and where this was painted.
Provenance
Acquired by George IV on or before December 1806; recorded in the store at Carlton House in 1816 (no 358) and 1819 (no 439) as a portrait of Louis XIV, valued at 40 guineas; taken to Windsor Castle in 1823
