The subject of this painting was previously identified as 'Landscape near Coburg' in the 1909 catalogue of Buckingham Palace, and later thought to depict Bernstorff Palace, Denmark, the summer residence of Princess Alexandra and her family in the nineteenth century. It was identified in 2024 as Dragsholm Castle in Zeeland.
The date of the painting would suggest it was a wedding present to the Prince and Princess of Wales, the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.A note on the reverse retains an indistinct inscription, but the artist is possibly Frederik Anton Schepelern (1796-1883), a Danish lithographer and drawing teacher.
