Three-quarter-length portrait of Frederick William, Duke of Brunswick and Wolfenb?ttel (1771-1815), facing slightly to the left, his head turned half to the left. He is holding a sword in his right hand, his shako in his left and resting his left elbow on a rock; he wears the uniform of a Colonel in the Brunswick Black Corps.
A note in an inventory, dated 22nd October 1868, states that this picture 'was composed by Prince Albert and Corden from a miniature of the Duke said to be a good likeness June 1848'.
The Royal Collection has a related portrait of the sitter, possibly a variation after this picture; RCIN 405143.Provenance
First recorded at Windsor Castle in the Waterloo Chamber in 1868
