This is one of a set of paintings bought by Prince Albert in 1844. (The others are RCIN 403866, 403867, 403868, and 403878.) Buckner was based in Rome from 1820-40 but returned to London and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1842 and 1877, usually subjects drawn from his experience in Italy.
Inscribed on the back with the subject and the name of the artist.Provenance
