Portrait of Maharaja Sri Teen Chandra Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana, half-length, facing the viewer, his head turned slightly right, and his hands crossed before him. He wears the uniform of the Ghurka Rifles decorated with the stars of the Orders of St Michael and St George, the Bath, the Star of India, and the Royal Victorian Order. His elaborate plumed headdress is fringed with emeralds. Maharaja Sri Teen Chandra Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana (1863–1929), was the fifth Prime Minister of Nepal from the Rana dynasty, serving from 1901, following the deposition of his brother Deva Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana, to his death in 1929. He received George V on a hunting trip to Nepal in 1911, and the Prince of Wales in 1921. He signed the Anglo-Nepalese Treaty of Friendship in 1923, which recognised the independence of Nepal.
