An oil copy of an original watercolour by Virgilio Ripari showing a view across the tranquil water of Lago Mergozzo towards the village of Mergozzo, beneath Mount Orfano. Another version of this watercolour, painted in enamel on porcelain, survives in the collection (RCIN 406313).
In 1879 Queen Victoria and her daughter Beatrice stayed at the Villa Henfrey-Branca on Lago Maggiore, a few kilometres west of the smaller Lago Mergozzo, in the province of the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, northern Italy.Provenance
