This is a view at the head of the Loch in the Cairngorm Mountains. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had gone on an expedition to Loch Avon in 1861, a few months before the death of the Prince. She recorded it in her Journal: ‘We ... looked down upon Loch Avon. It was very cold and windy ... we sat down behind a large stone a little above the loch (unfortunately we could not go to the extreme end, where the water rushes in to it)’. Signed and dated: August Becker. 1865. Dated on the back, 1864.
