Archie Macdonald was the son of John Macdonald, Jäger (huntsman) to Prince Albert on the Balmoral estate in Scotland.. He became Jäger to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s eldest son, the Prince of Wales. The Queen also painted a portrait of Archie’s sister Annie (RCIN 403678). Signed and dated: V R. Ap:1852. Inscribed on the back as painted by the Queen from life.
