This painting depicts a view of Remangen on the River Rhine in Germany, about half-way between Koblenz and Bonn.
William Oliver was a landscape painter in oil and watercolour. His subjects were views of France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and the Tyrol, as well as of England. Oliver exhibited at the Royal Academy almost every year between 1835 and 1853; at the British Institution, 1835-54; and at the Royal Society of British Artists between 1829 and 1852.
