Maurice, a St Bernard, is seen here with a view of Windsor Castle in the distance. Maurice was born in 1854 and was acquired by the Queen in 1855. He died in 1864 and he was Prince Albert’s favourite St Bernard. Signed: J W Bottomley [initials in monogram].
Provenance
Given to Queen Victoria by Prince Albert on her birthday, 24th May 1859; recorded hanging in the Billiard Rooom at Osborne in 1876
