Cairnach was a Skye terrier. He died in 1844 and was buried near Adelaide Cottage in the Home Park at Windsor. Queen Victoria described him as ‘such a beautiful dog ... such dear engaging ways’. Inscribed on the back with the names of the artist and sitter.
Provenance
Commissioned by Prince Albert and given to Queen Victoria, 24 December 1841.
