Judith, three-quarter-length, standing, in a blue dress with a red chemise, holds aloft the head of Holofernes in her left hand, a servant on her left; behind, and to the right, the decapitated body of Holofernes on a green curtained bed.
Provenance
First recorded in the Queen's Privy Chamber at Windsor Castle in 1688 (no 783), it remained here until 1776 as an overdoor with an attribution to Guido Reni; it re-surfaces in the Closet to the Cartoon Gallery at Hampton Court in 1835
