A Wooded Landscape c. 1675
-
Loten was an Amsterdam painter who had settled in London by 1662.
This is one of a pair of landscapes (OM 415-6, 401200 and 401202) which were recorded at Windsor during the reign of James II and crop up again in George III’s time at Kew, always attributed to Loten. They should be dated to c. 1675.Provenance
One of a pair (401200 & 401202), probably painted for James II and recorded as Loten in the Princesses Guard Chamber at Windsor Castle in 1688 (nos 1096-7); in the Prince's Staircase at Windsor in 1710 (nos 226-7) and 1720; they next appear in Madame Bercherdorff's Dining Room at Kew Palace in 1805 (nos 2-3)
