The sitter is depicted in a full-length portrait holding a black hat in his left hand. He wears a short-sleeved jacket, fastened with a belt, and embroidered in red on a purple ground, with a red cape over his shoulders and a sword at the waist. The costume dates from c.1625, although based on its quality this is presumably a copy after an unknown original and may have been painted later in the seventeenth century.
