A copy by Moussa Ayoub after the State portrait of George V by Luke Fildes (RCIN 402023). The painting was probably commissioned for Holyrood Palace; it was recorded there in 1917 and hung in the Throne Room in 1929. Ayoub was presumably one of a team of copyists working under Fildes' supervision to supply the demand of State portraits of Edward VII, Queen Alexandra and George V that were to be sent all over the world.
Copies of the State portraits of Edward VII, Queen Alexandra and George V by Ayoub are recorded in Windsor Guildhall; they were presented by Queen Mary and George V in 1918.
Provenance
Presumably painted for King George V; recorded at Holyrood Palace in 1917
