This is one of a pair of pastels (OM 1220-1, 400904-5) which were probably executed for the sitters' mother, Augusta, Dowager Princess of Wales in c. 1764, possibly by Catherine Read. Princess Louisa Anne is shown wearing a blue dress with bows on the bodice and a pink rose in the neckline, her dark blond hair worn up with a twist of pearls, pearls also at her throat. The head of a Maltese dog appears in the lower corner.
