This is a view from the Boat Pool (a section of water on the River Dee) above Balmoral, looking up the river. The picture is said to have been the property of Princess Beatrice, the youngest of Queen Victoria’s nine children, whose name is inscribed on the back.
In March 1877 the Queen had been shown ‘some charming paintings done at Balmoral & Osborne by August Becker most of which I mean to buy’, according to the entry in her Journal.
