Full-length, standing, reversed (with his back towards the spectator), his carbine raised directly in front of him; wearing a scarlet jacket with blue cuffs, over a buff waistcoat and trousers, gold carbine belt with blue stripes. This is one of a series of fifty-three paintings which are part of a larger set illustrating the various movements of carbine drill, dismounted. Some of the paintings are numbered, with the highest number on any of the existing panel being 73, which means that the set is clearly not complete. The figures are from the same hand and appear to have been competently painted from life. They are of great value to the student of military dress, for they show the figures from every aspect.
