This is a sketch of Sewa, a dachshund belonging to Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Inscribed on the back with the names of artist and sitter.

Provenance

Said to have been purchased by Prince Albert in 1847; recorded hanging in the Prince Consort's Writing Room (Room no 210) at Windsor Castle in 1878
