This is a copy by Charles-Lucien-Louis Muller of the portrait of the archbishop painted by George Richmond in 1879 for Lambeth Palace. Archibald Campbell Tait was brought up as a Presbyterian and educated in Scotland. He became a Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford, was ordained in 1836 and appointed Headmaster of Rugby school in 1842.
