Soft paste porcelain, beau bleu ground and gilded decoration | 5.7 x 5.5 cm (diameter) | RCIN 39842

Sèvres soft-paste porcelain cup and saucer. Beau bleu ground with gilded decoration. Painted in polychrome in the oval reserve on the cup are two putti in a landscape setting, and in the circular reserve on the saucer a flaming altar, with as background a landscape and arcading. Although the paste is of genuine soft-paste Sèvres porcelain, the gilding and the painting are almost certainly of later early nineteenth-century date.
