A mace or gurz with a head composed of eight foliate steel blades, and a circular steel shaft, terminating in a sword-hilt with a broad knuckle-guard and a flat, circular pommel. In parts of India, maces were used as a symbol of office as well as weapons.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76. The mace recorded in Arms and Armour at Sandringham House (1910) as from Jaipur or Udaipur.
