A spear or sang with a slightly curved steel blade with a central rib on each side, springing from an elaborately chiselled long tubular socket strengthened by thick projecting chased bands and three rings; rosewood shaft.
The spearhead possibly made within the Nayaka kingdom (1529-1736), which ruled over modern-day Tamil Nadu.Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76. Recorded ing Arms and armour at Sandringham House (1910) as from the 'Zamindar of Selur' but probably a gift from the Zamindar of Seithur in modern-day Tamil Nadu.
